Warranty policy

What we stand behind, and for how long

Our warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. It does not cover wear, and it does not cover damage from conditions outside our control — this page sets out exactly where that line sits.

Last updated: 24 July 2026

Keep your commissioning report and service records. A machine with a documented maintenance history is far quicker to assess — and far more likely to be covered.

Coverage

SH System Engineering warrants that equipment we manufacture is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and correct maintenance. This warranty is given to the original purchaser and is not transferable without our written agreement.

Warranty periods

The warranty period applying to your order is stated on the quotation and order acknowledgement, and runs from the date of commissioning or, where we do not commission the equipment, from the date of delivery. As a general guide:

  • Machines manufactured by us — our standard workmanship warranty as stated on your quotation
  • Welding transformers and guns built by us — as stated on your quotation
  • Imported machines and components — the original manufacturer’s warranty, administered by us on your behalf
  • Repair and reconditioning work — warranty on the specific work performed and parts fitted, as stated on the job sheet

Confirm the exact periods above against your current commercial terms before publishing — periods differ by product line and by manufacturer.

What is covered

  • Defective materials or components supplied by us
  • Faulty workmanship in machines, transformers, guns and consoles we have built
  • Failure of a part we have fitted during a repair, within the warranty period for that work
  • Equipment that does not perform to the specification stated in our written order acknowledgement

What is not covered

  • Normal wear of electrodes, tips, caps, shanks, contacts, seals, hoses and cables
  • Damage from incorrect supply voltage, phase failure, power surges or inadequate earthing
  • Damage from inadequate or contaminated cooling water, restricted flow or scaling
  • Damage from operating outside the rated duty cycle, KVA rating or material thickness
  • Damage from incorrect installation or commissioning carried out by others
  • Consequences of missed or inadequate maintenance, or use of non-approved spare parts
  • Repairs, modifications or control changes made by anyone not authorised by us
  • Corrosion, contamination, impact damage, misuse, accident or neglect
  • Cosmetic marks that do not affect function
  • Loss of production, downtime, scrapped parts or any other consequential loss

Consumables and wear parts

Consumables are excluded from warranty by nature. Electrode tips, caps and shanks, kickless and secondary cables, water hoses, seals and filters are wear items whose life depends on your duty cycle, material and maintenance practice. We will always advise expected life and stock the parts locally so replacement is quick.

Conditions of the warranty

Warranty cover is conditional on the equipment being installed, operated and maintained in accordance with our documentation, connected to a supply meeting our stated requirements, and maintained on a reasonable schedule with genuine or approved parts. The machine must remain accessible for our engineer to inspect, and the invoice must be paid in accordance with agreed terms.

Imported equipment

Equipment sourced from an original manufacturer carries that manufacturer’s warranty. We handle the claim on your behalf — diagnosis, correspondence, parts and returns — through our Germany and Japan offices. Resolution timescales for imported components depend on the manufacturer and on shipping.

Reconditioned and used machinery

Used and reconditioned machines are supplied with a warranty on the reconditioning work and on any new parts fitted, as stated on the quotation. The unreconditioned parts of the machine, and its frame, are supplied as inspected.

Making a claim

  • Contact us as soon as the fault appears and stop using the machine if continuing could cause further damage
  • Provide the machine type, serial number, installation date and a description of the fault
  • Send photographs of the nameplate, the control panel and the failed area
  • Tell us what changed immediately before the fault — new material, new operator, a power event, a service
  • We will diagnose remotely where possible, then attend site or ask for the item to be returned

Remedies

Where a claim is accepted, we will at our option repair the equipment, replace the defective part, or supply an equivalent item. Repair or replacement does not extend the original warranty period beyond the balance remaining, except for the specific part replaced.

Where an engineer attends and the fault is found to be outside warranty, the visit and any parts are chargeable at our prevailing rates. We will tell you on site before carrying out chargeable work.

Out-of-warranty support

Support does not stop when the warranty does. We repair, recondition and supply parts for equipment of any age and from any manufacturer, and an annual maintenance agreement gives you priority attendance and a documented service history. See our Services page.
